Entrepreneurship
: An Alternative Career Option
--
Indranil Banerjee
For
a considerable period of time securing employment was the
sole objective for everybody. The population strongly believed
that to showcase talent one must be on company payrolls. Developing
a business, by and large, was a second choice as a career
option. But the new economy, business model, technology and
education system have created a complete paradigm shift in
people's thought processes. The new generation is actively
coming out to develop something for itself. The upsurge in
entrepreneurial affinity is not just happening in isolation;
rather, it is the outcome of several reasons. This article
attempts to highlight those reasons and the en route challenges.
If ably supported, the entrepreneurial initiative can boost
the economy too.

Orientation
Program for Freshers A Road Less Travelled
-- Bholanath Dutta
An
effective Orientation Program (OP) helps students to get familiarized
with the campus, course curriculum, facilities, practices
and different processes. During orientation, students get
an opportunity to interact and make friends, adjust to the
new surroundings and even sign up for various activities and
events. It helps to instill team spirit among the new batch
and inculcate a sense of discipline in the future managers
and offer them the best orientation to the new academic environment.
It helps students design an action plan during the two years
of program. Most of the B-Schools organize OPs with a very
short-sighted objective and don't understand its multiple
benefits. Poorly organized programs can create lot of suspicion
and misunderstanding amongst students. This article discusses
the importance of OP, reorientation, designing and a sample
OP schedule.

Thoughts from the Bhagavad Gita and the Mahabharata
-- P Uma Maheswari
The
Indian epic Mahabharata is a great source of management ideas.
It is the story of the great battle between the Pandavas and
the Kauravas. This Battle of Kurukshetra can also be viewed
as a conflict between good and evil, in which God, in the
form of Lord Krishna, guided the Pandavas in each and every
action and directed them to victory. Each and every plan and
word of Lord Krishna is more or less similar to today's management
concepts. This article is an attempt to review some such concepts
immortalized in the Holy Gita and the Mahabharata.

graduates daring to decline campus placement opportunities

days. But when one IIM graduate sells vegetables on the streets
with a bigger dream to build a vegetable hub of India, it's
indeed praiseworthy. Especially, when the person is an IIM,
Ahmedabad topper.
