The article presents a comprehensive view on Bluetooth technology. The different applications that use Bluetooth technology and the issues regarding its adoption are discussed. The article examines the reasons behind the low adoption of this technology in the US and compares it with that of Europe. It also discusses the application of Bluetooth in home security and enterprise use in the US.
In
the fast pace business environment, wireless technology
is becoming very popular. Various wireless technologies
like Ultra-wideband, Infrared technology, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
are being developed to improve the effectiveness of communications.
Bluetooth technology, however, has become dominant by becoming
the industry standard for Personal Area Networking (PAN)
in the race of better and effective communications.
Bluetooth-enabled
products were received quite comfortably in Europe. Seeing
the success of these products, the American companies like
Motorola decided to market them in America. But these products
were not very popular. Even now, the market for Bluetooth-enabled
products in US is still at its lowest rate of adoption as
compared to its European counterpart. The reasons behind
the different adoption level in the two giant markets -
Europe and US are discussed in this article.
Bluetooth
technology was conceived to replace cable technology and
now it provides a means to connect various devices like
personal digital assistants, mobile phones, printers, digital
camera, and televisions. The connection is made through
a low cost and secure short range radio frequency and offered
data transfer rates of about 400 kbps and operated in 2.4GHz
frequency band. The advantage of using this technology is
that it provides faster connection times, better audio performance,
improved quality, and better resistance to interference
from other wireless products like Wi-Fi.
