Employee health and wellness is a key concern for employers and employees alike. Intense competition, tendency for a more materialistic life, and intensification of work due to modern production and processing technology are some of the factors contributing towards an imbalanced lifestyle. Unless conscious measures are taken by the employees and the employers to prevent issues relating to health and wellness, it will lead to loss of productivity and working days, and at times, loss of valuable talent.
Individual
ambitions fueled by organizational goals (or vice versa) are leading to conditions
where we are overlooking certain basic aspects of life. Many of us are tending
towards a materialistic life devoid of the finer things in life. In our hurry
to achieve personal goals, we forget to stop and appreciate smaller, yet more
beautiful aspects of lifelike nature, a painting, a flower arrangement, the raindrops,
an animal, or other aspects of our surroundings.
This
way we are also creating stressful conditions for ourselves, which ultimately
have a damaging effect on our health leading to an imbalance in our approach to
life. As a result, a number of ailments are caused due to our working styles,
insufficient rest, and high levels of stress.
Our
health is in our hands. Only we can understand what our body communicates with
us. Many times, we ignore cues such as a dash of pain in the neck, a sore back,
dryness in the eyes, loss of appetite or sleep, etc., because we have other goals
to fulfill. But small irritations and pains can aggravate into larger problems
if we do not pay timely attention to our health needs. If we do not take care
of our health, there is little that others can do for us. |
