Over the last decade, there has been a growing awareness in organizations about the importance of project management in order to achieve business strategies and goals. However, skill gap in the project management profession leaves it without a good project management foundation. The accidental project manager is a technical expert rewarded with added responsibility of managing a project. He may be cynical and look for simple tools and techniques which just help him to get things done.
According to a global survey carried out by an independent agency, about 1,867 workplace executives revealed that "Accidental project managers" are an increasing phenomenon in most of the projects and almost two-thirds of them lack necessary qualifications or training. Such unprepared accidental project managers can cost a company heavily. The end result is incomplete projects and failed deadlines. The survey discloses that 58% of the surveyed project managers agreed that their projects rarely met time and cost targets. |
