For a considerable period of time securing employment was the sole objective for everybody. The population strongly believed that to showcase talent one must be on company payrolls. Developing a business, by and large, was a second choice as a career option. But the new economy, business model, technology and education system have created a complete paradigm shift in people's thought processes. The new generation is actively coming out to develop something for itself. The upsurge in entrepreneurial affinity is not just happening in isolation; rather, it is the outcome of several reasons. This article attempts to highlight those reasons and the en route challenges. If ably supported, the entrepreneurial initiative can boost the economy too.

Over the years the general conception of pursuing studies was directed to cracking an employment test and interview and finally getting into employment, which would usually last till retirement. A majority of the people hardly had any introspection regarding the linkage of one's study with the job content or relevancy of the specialization that one possessed in the actual job front. The vast population with limited scope of employment had made even the simplest kind of job a coveted and respected one. Gray-haired individuals could easily recall the days evening the mid-1990s when, for the even lowest railway or bank jobs, the roads used to get blocked on Sunday mornings (when the tests for those posts were conducted. Even a simple commission-based sales job of introducing a local print magazine used to attract a long queue for a walk-in interview. Life is altogether different now; a leading private bank short-listed six fresh candidates for a position from a job site and management was gathered together to interview from 10:00 hrs., unfortunately none of the six candidates turned up for the interview as per schedule, or even called the management to inform that they were not coming. Ultimately, when a junior HR executive contacted them, the candidates requested to fix up another date for `discussion'. Amazingly, the young minds are not ready to get tested rather have their own agenda to `discuss'.

A number of factors are responsible for one's willingness to become an entrepreneur. It may evolve out of individual efficiency or even inefficiency. The option may cross one's mind if the person is not properly qualified. Job uncertainty is another important issue. It may also develop from post-employment experience of market realities such as job insecurity, lack of recognition, career growth, compensation and benefits and opportunities within the company or outside it. The lack of chance to exhibit skills, knowledge and competence is the reason behind adopting such option. Personal reasons such as family compulsions, inability to put in 8-10 hours of work, unanticipated job transfer or frequent official travel can prompt one to opt for entrepreneurship to pronounce personal freedom.
