The Indian epic Mahabharata is a great source of management ideas. It is the story of the great battle between the Pandavas and the Kauravas. This Battle of Kurukshetra can also be viewed as a conflict between good and evil, in which God, in the form of Lord Krishna, guided the Pandavas in each and every action and directed them to victory. Each and every plan and word of Lord Krishna is more or less similar to today's management concepts. This article is an attempt to review some such concepts immortalized in the Holy Gita and the Mahabharata.

Management has turned out to be a part and parcel of our day-to-day lives. It's influence is all around us. All places which need human beings for their functioning, need management. It can be your home or office or a party or, for that matter, any other social gathering. So management is nothing but a systematic way of working using human power through planning, priorities and practice. Its goal is to bring people together in harmony and work cooperatively to overcome their weakness. Managing men, money and materials as per the requirements and situation is called as `Successful Management'. The best part in management is to attain results with the help of minimum available resources. Mismanagement or lack of management leads to confusion, disorder, wastage, destruction and even depression.

Men have their own perceptions. The poor curse rich, the rich want to be richer and, thus, the cycle goes on. After all, money is the main motive that drives human lives. Even though we speak about communalism there is still something called capitalism. It's just a way of management. The Bhagavad Gita, a part of the Mahabharata, is the greatest gift that Indians have given to the world. The Holy Gita was preached by Lord Krishna to Arjuna in the battlefield of Kurukshetra. It is a kind of counseling given by Lord Krishna to the depressed Arjuna. Similar to a catalyst it hastened the reaction of Arjuna to do his duty. The Holy Gita is a practical psychology, as it transforms and connects us with our inner self or conscience. It also helps us to take part in the battle for survival equipped with the right knowledge.
