Abstract
An effective Orientation Program (OP) helps students to get familiarized with the campus, course curriculum, facilities, practices and different processes. During orientation, students get an opportunity to interact and make friends, adjust to the new surroundings and even sign up for various activities and events. It helps to instill team spirit among the new batch and inculcate a sense of discipline in the future managers and offer them the best orientation to the new academic environment. It helps students design an action plan during the two years of program. Most of the B-Schools organize OPs with a very short-sighted objective and don't understand its multiple benefits. Poorly organized programs can create lot of suspicion and misunderstanding amongst students. This article discusses the importance of OP, reorientation, designing and a sample OP schedule.
Description
In B-Schools, an Orientation Progam (OP)
is designed to give a complete overview of the course curriculum
along with other curricular and extracurricular activities
during the two-year program. It brings the students into
the main stream of MBA program and helps them design their
action plan and do's and don'ts during the program. OP
is a great success to make the students familiar with the
school processes to enrich their experiences and expertise.
It also helps them understand the competitive business
world and how to equip themselves to get a good placement.
Many B-Schools organize the OP as a part of the academic
curriculum designed for that particular year and don't
give much importance on this. B-Schools need to really
think of how to make the best use of such a program to
prepare the students for the next two years. OP does not
mean involving the freshers only. In fact, before the start
of every semester it is essential to reorient students
to the changes taken place in the teaching-learning process.
Master's degree in business administration
continues to be a popular career option amongest students
graduating from different streams. The market demand and
increasing reputation of MBA program has attracted students
from diverse background to aspire for admission into a
B-School. As students come from different backgrounds,
they need to be told about the challenges upfront. OP is
designed to bring all the students to a common platform.
