Creativity is the ability of a
person to imagine or create
or invent something new. It is an ability to generate
something new. It is nothing but regenerating the old ideas into new ones by
applying new thoughts and by combining new ideas with the existing ones.
A creative idea may sometimes be astonishing and wonderful while
other times it may be a simple and practical one. Everyone can be
creative. One should know how to harness this trait and bring it out into
light. It is an attitude to bring about a change and a newness to quench
the thirst of the customer who always welcomes a change, either in the
form of a new product or service or environment around him. Creativity
is nothing but unusual thinking.
One has to think creatively to be more successful in today's
competitive market. Ordinary thinking cannot help a marketer face the
competition. Creative thinking is a process that results in identifying new
products and services to a market or in identifying new ways to market
the old products and reach out better to the customers and thus beat
the competition. Some believe that it is the outcome of the cognitive
process of the mind. Thinking differently to innovate a product or an idea
out of an existing one is creativity.
In today's competitive environment, nurturing creativity is
really important for the companies. In the book, A Whole New Mind, Daniel Pink (2005) argued that
we are entering a new age where creativity has become
increasingly important. In this age, we need to foster and encourage
right-directed thinking (representing creativity and emotion) over
left-directed thinking (representing logical, analytical thought).
Nickerson (1999) provides a summary of how creativity can be nurtured. |
