Every organization needs to have well-trained and experienced
people to perform the activities that needs to be done.
If the current or potential job occupants can meet this
requirement, training is not important. When this is not
the case, it is necessary to raise the skill levels and
increase the versatility and adaptability of the employees.
Training is a learning experience in that it seeks a relatively
permanent change in an individual, which will improve his/her
ability to perform the current job. Training generally involves
gaining knowledge, change of skills, attitudes and/or behavior.
It means changing what employees know, how they work, their
attitude towards their work, and/or their interaction with
their peer group.
Training and development, is a human resource development
and a closed-loop process. It is crucial for the survival,
growth and development of an organization and its people.
It is an effort to improve the efficiency, effectiveness
and quality of work life of employees at all levels. Industrialization
has accelerated the expansion and normalization of the training
field particularly in business and industry because new
recruits in an organization must know how to perform the
assigned work with efficiently and effectively. Training
and development is essential at every stage of career development
of an employee. Training cannot be an isolated exercise.
It is an integrated part of an organization's overall management
development plan/activity. It depends on manpower planning,
performance appraisal, superior-subordinate relationship
and the work environment.
