The concept of `Green Growth' is being talked about at various forums. It should not be a talking agenda, but is to be taken in the real spirit for the purpose of implementation. This article analyzes the role and contribution of today's CEOs in maintaining the environment and make it sustainable for the generations to come.

It is a general feeling that eco- nomic growth and environmental sustainability both cannot go hand-in-hand under normal circumstances. In today's political and economic scenario, if a country wants to achieve economic growth, it has to pollute the environment in some form or other; it may be due to industrialization, may be due to fast expansion program of infrastructure, may be due to modernization programs and so on. These economic growth activities, once implemented will have an undesirable impact on the environment. There is an increased awareness to save the environment. People are realizing the devastating effects of global warming caused by environmental damages. Environment is to be saved not only for the sake of present generation, but for the future generations as well, that is called, environmental sustainability.

Environment or surroundings is the present state that surrounds a thing or object, including the human beings or a building or even the entire world. It encompasses everything including all living and non-living things that occurs naturally on Earth. As our elders call it, earth consists of pancha boothas (five basic elements), namely land, water, fire, ether (sky) and air. For our convenience we call it this way:

It is the duty of each and every citizen all over the world to maintain this environment and maintain the availability of natural resources. The rate of consumption of these resources should be less than the rate of replenishment, which unfortunately is not being ensured.
