Microsoft cannot afford to carry on with its `poor security' image. It's diversifying its business and is opening another business unit, anti-virus software.

"Enabling people in businesses around the world to realize their full potential" is the mission statement of Microsoft. The history is repeating again, but this time the attack is not on the browser market as it happened in 1990s but is in anti-virus market.

Microsoft Corporation, headquartered in Redmond, Washington, US, is the worldwide leader in software services and Internet technologies for personal and business computing. It develops a wide range of software products for both personal and business users and has subsidiaries in more than 60 countries worldwide. For the fiscal year 2002, Microsoft's revenues totaled $28.37 bn.

Microsoft, the second most valuable brand after Coca-Cola according to the recent BusinessWeek Inter-brand ranking of world's most valuable brands, cannot afford the reputation of being poor on security when so many instances of virus attacks against its software had taken place in the past. The company under its `Trustworthy Computing' campaign had announced on June 10, 2003 that it had acquired anti-virus technology and intellectual property of GeCAD Software. GeCAD is a Romanian software company, which has developed an anti-virus technology called RAV (Reliable Anti-Virus Software), that supports multiple platforms and protects 10 million users worldwide. Microsoft had acquired GeCAD which made one of the best Linux security solutions.
