Andy Bird, President of Walt Disney International, envisions a great opportunity for animation production in India. With a huge under-15 population, excellent skill-set, and cost competitive advantage, the vision certainly seems to be promising. Nonetheless, the bottlenecks need to be addressed to, before it is too late.

Mimicking the reality is an art by itself, and Indian animation sector is all set to capitalize this art with its unmatchable strengths of high-end technology, and skilled human capital. Indian animation sector is witnessing a spurt in projects. Albeit, India has made a late entry in animation-making, it has been successful in gaining favor over the animation tycoons like Taiwan, Singapore, South Korea and Philippines. A few unmatchable features like lower costs, large English-speaking populace and a track record of advanced technology, certainly provide Indian animation sector an edge over its overseas competitors.

While those were the strengths for the animation makers, the entertainment industry is showing an equal interest in India to tap the huge 340 million population under the age of 15a number that is larger than the US population. Further, statistics indicate that 60% of the population is under 34 and seven million people will enter the 20-34 age group every year for the next decade. As the media production companies are targeting the audience irrespective of age, these numbers, undoubtedly, spell a huge scope for the animation sector: Software as well as entertainmentin the times to come.
