SUN F&C, which began its operations in India in March, 1995, was one of the first set of private sector (predominantly foreign) mutual funds to be awarded a license. Nikhil Khattau was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the SUN F&C Asset Management (I) Pvt. Ltd. He began with a single office in Mumbai and a starting team of five people. SUN F&C's primary objective is to create one of India's leading asset management organizations through an uncompromising focus upon quality in all aspects of product innovation/development, investment management and investor servicing.

SUN F&C launched its Indian operations by becoming the domestic advisor to FCEM's INDICO fund. It then became the Investment Advisor/Investment Manager to India Performance Fund, an offshore fund, launched in 1996 and eight domestic schemes-Value Fund (1997), Money Value Fund (1998), Balanced Fund (1999), Emerging Technologies Fund (2000), Monthly Income Plan (2000) Resurgent India Equity Fund (2000). Fixed Maturity Series (2002) and Fixed Income Securities Fund (2002). Thereafter, SUN F&C took over the Trusteeship, management and the administration of JF Mutual Fund schemes viz., JF India Bond Fund and JF Personal Tax Saver '96 with effect from August 23, 2002, which migrated to SUN F&C Bond Fund and SUN F&C Personal Tax Saver respectively on that date. The AMC renders non-discretionary investment advisory services to SUNCAP Holdings Limited, a company incorporated in Cyprus which invests in Indian Securities.
