A good teacher needs not only mastery in the subject but must also be able to adapt himself/herself and improvise as and when the situation demands without compromising on his or her ethics.

A student spends 25,000 hours in the campus. The school must have the best of teachers, who have the ability to teach, love teaching and build moral qualities.

The whole process of eduction is shaped and molded by a personality called the teacher who plays a pivotal role in any system of education. The Kothari Commission on Education has emphasized the role of the teacher in shaping the future of the nation. The shape will undoubtedly depend on what goes in the classroom and how it goes on. According to the document Challenges of Education, teachers have special responsibilities in every society and the way they are discharged sets the tone for education of the young. The National Council of Teacher Education document of 1998 stresses that teachers are the torch-bearers in creating social cohesion and national integration by revealing and elaborating the secrets of attaining higher values in life. Thus, only a teacher with sufficient competencies and good ethical values can render effective service and help in all-round development of the younger generation. Good teachers are a valuable asset to any school system, while poor teachers are a liability.

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, the former President of India said in his Teachers Day message, "Teaching is a lifetime mission. To enable development of youth, first and foremost, the teacher's love for teaching is essential, with teaching as the soul of the teacher. Teachers must realize that they are responsible for shaping not only the students but igniting the youth who are the most powerful resource under the earth, on the earth and above the earth."
