Modern business has undoubtedly become dynamic. This dynamism has added to the complexity of the very nature of business. These complexities have called for added responsibilities for the modern CEOs requiring them to be more participative, which in turn calls for a thorough revamp of the roles performed by them. This article presents a new dimension to the leadership thoughts. A three-dimensional model is developed that brings out the necessary roles a modern CEO is required to play which are different from the conventional roles prescribing various styles that the leaders should adopt in the changing business scenario. "The best leaders are those most interested in surrounding themselves with assistants and associates smarter than they are. They are frank in admitting this and are willing to pay for such talents." Excellence is a word that is used to describe the best. Although it is a relative term, the ultimate objective of every individual is to reach this. Satisfied are those who find their optimum level as excellence. But winners are those who make others call their optimum as excellence. Business is a term, which is used to describe an activity that is aimed at making profit.

But this basic definition of the term `business' has become outdated. Modern times call for a more comprehensive explanation for the term. Modern business is visualized as a system with many elements and multiple connections with ample scope for interactions among them. These multiple connections determine the outcome, which precariously is based on each of the elements and the strength of these interactions. Though these connections and interconnections vary from organization to organization, they are present in all of them.

The complexity of the interconnections increases with the complexity of the firm. Adding to hardships, the business environment has seen a paradigm shift from being `predictable' to `unpredictable'. The person responsible for action should be in a position to anticipate the happenings and act before being acted upon, which alone can save the organization from unpleasant situations.
