Global
and connected economy has enhanced the need for managing
business affairs virtually. `Communication' and `collaboration'
have, therefore, emerged crucial for efficient operation
of organizations. At present, various revolutionary
forms of communication such as SMS text messaging, instant
messaging, etc., have stepped in. Electronic mail (or
simply e-mail) has been under usage widely for more
than a decade within corporate globally as it offers
the fastest and most efficient way of communication.
A majority of the corporate communication now is carried
through electronic mail. In 2004, Meta Group reported
that 80% of the executives claimed `e-mail' as the preferred
medium for corporate communication. Moreover, the global
industry has considered e-mail-based communication as
a valid method for correspondence in all business functions.
Besides, e-mail correspondences are also considered
legal and knowledge documents for several business purposes.
E-Mail
management is a category of content or knowledge management
practice. Generally, e-mail management is viewed just
as the storage of both inbound and outbound e-mails.
Most of us, yet, tend to store or archive inbound e-mails
only. Archiving outgoing e-mails is a very rare practice
for many. Further, the users or organizations did not
pay much attention to the organized storage of the e-mails
received or sent. |
