Supply Chain as a concept is being highly recognized to gain business advantage. This paper comes up with various parameters to decide the quality of a supply chain. It gives a matrix to help settle upon the status of the quality of supply chain and few critical factors, which are not measurable mathematically, but has always to be checked and coordinated for a good hold on the performance aspect of the supply chain. A need for maturity model was felt which describes the current standing of the existing supply chain in the business arena and becomes a guide map for direction to the supply chain enhancement.
Every product based company follows a very basic and logical concept to meet the demand which we call supply chain. It can be defined as the process of planning, implementing and controlling efficient and cost effective flow of raw materials, in process inventory, finished goods and related information from point of origin to point of consumption for the purpose of conforming to customer requirement. It makes effective management of the material and information flow one of the basic process of the various business processes. SCM is a customer-oriented approach, designed to deliver maximum value to the customer. Most companies spend significant time and effort executing marketing programs that drive interest in their product and establishing sales channels that convert that interest into sale. The effectiveness of whole of these efforts lay the building stone for the success of every business. The critical factor in whole of these exercise is the flow of information and the effective use of it. |
