This article provides a multi-focal perspective on corporate sustainability and its importance to global economy. It explains how societal sectors like corporate, government and non-profit organizations in multiple geographic locations can contribute and measure sustainability. It also describes how these crucial concepts promote sustainable growth of the corporates.

"Business enterprises that have adequate means and resources should consider it a part of their social obligations to contribute, in suitable forms, to the process and welfare of the community in which their enterprise is located."

In the past two-and-a-half decades, the concept of sustainable development has been considered as a major challenge to corporates and policymakers. The two important fields vital for the success of businesses in today's global economy are sustainability and innovation. The importance of this concept was recognized at the UN conference on Human Environment at Stockholm in 1972 where balancing of the global economy in terms of economic, social and environmental concerns was emphasized upon. In 1987, the United Nations defined sustainable development as "development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." (WCED, 1987: 43).

Corporate sustainability depends on human innovation and ecological balance. How to develop human capabilities and fulfil organizational needs while paying attention to ecology for active corporate sustainability, is a question that has assumed prominence throughout the world. It is essential to bring together the government, management educators, non-governmental organizations, corporates and individuals so that they may work towards the cause without any internal and external gaps. There is a dire need to concentrate on how to utilize the available limited resources to provide the best environment to the burgeoning population and ensure better living standards.
