Decision-making and Concept Mapping : A Traditional Concept Redefined

Mapping may be seen as a type of brainstorming. Both mapping and brainstorming may be used to encourage the generation of new material with different interpretations and observations. During the process of mapping, one will rely less on intentionally random input, but during brainstorming, one may have wild, zany, or off-the-wall ideas and connections. The article mainly focuses on how the human brain, with 700 trillion cells, is programmed to activate the formal and lateral thinking and how far these factors contribute to the decision-making capability of individuals.

 
 
 

Decision-making is an intelligent, thought-provoking, and a mind-boggling activity which needs a definite conclusion. It implies deliberation and thought and suggests a conscious act of revealing the inner focus of a human being to the outside world. The act of understanding how people make decisions and how they can make the decision-making process more effective and efficient, is conceptually termed as "behavioral decision-making". A person could be very conservative or perpetual in making any decision. The decision-maker's style and characteristics can be classified as: The thinker, the thinking process and the object which created the situation for thinking.

At first, it is necessary to understand the varied knowledge that an individual needs to acquire in a span of his or her life. The "factual knowledge", the "cognitive knowledge", the "principal knowledge" and the "subjective knowledge" are worth mentioning.

The "factual knowledge" is based on universal reasoning that includes hypothesis testing and mathematics - it requires intellectual thinking. People with high Intelligent Quotient (IQ), and who are emotionally balanced and intuitively geared are tuned with it. The "cognitive knowledge" is based on empirical facts that includes the know-how and object knowledge and this requires training. The "principal knowledge" is based on conjecture such as metaphysicsit belongs to a realm of appearances. The "subjective knowledge" is based on beliefit belongs to a realm of deceptions.
