The Case deals with the ORPAT Group_one of the most successful family run business houses of Gujarat, which has made its preference felt in several areas. With infusion of new blood and changing scenario, the group has diversified businesses.

All the above achievementd can be attributed to the entrepreneurial skills of Shri Odhavjibhai R Patel, (popularly Known as O R Patel-Chairman) and his sons. O R Patel who was earlier a Science teacher in V C Technical High School, Morbi, established in 1971 a small unit, Ajanta Transistor Clock Mfg. Co. for manufacturing Mechanical Clocks. From such a humble beginning to becoming the "World's largest Clock manufacturer" is truly a commendable feat. From Clocks to calculators, telephones, CFL, and vitrified tiles etc., has been a saga of tremendous growth in terms of product portfolio and diversification.

Many Indian firms started to emulate Ajanta's business model and the market was flooded with low priced clocks. Added to that, the low cost clocks were dumped into Indian market from China. Sensing that the business may soon become unviable, Ajanta tried to set up a manufacturing facility in China to balance the cost equation and to compete with cheap imports. At one point of time, Ajanta commanded 70% of the Indian market share in clocks.
