An HR executive is very important for an organization. He inducts "outsiders" into the company, influences the HR in many ways and is responsible for ensuring employee satisfaction in the organization. He is also viewed as the "exit gate" for employees who move out of the organization owing to different reasons. All these important roles demand that the HR executive should possess certain specific qualities. This article aims to analyze the necessary prerequisites for being a successful HR executive.

The HR executive is the storehouse of knowledge on HR functions. He possesses skills in conducting interviews, sourcing applications and making intelligent assessment of a candidate in the selection process. He grasps the candidate's skills, work experience and its relevance to the company, the period of service rendered in each company etc. He collects information regarding any break in service and the reasons behind it. This inquiry is inquisitive in nature and goes beyond what is written in the bio-data.

The HR executive interacts with all the HODs in order to assess whether the prospective candidate would be fit for the department. More so, his personal interactions with the HODs would be an asset to the HR executive in assessing whether the candidate would fit the desired role in the department. It is quite essential for him to evaluate this aspect so as to avoid any unpleasant experience in future between the appointed candidate and his boss. Though survival in the industry is the business of the employee, a screening of his temperament and other behavioral aspects exhibited in the interview or during general discussions before appointing him is necessary.
