This paper investigates the difference in the emotional quotient among the management students of IBS, Bhubaneswar. A study was conducted on a batch of 51 (semester I) MBA students (male = 31 and female = 20), and the results were subjected to statistical analysis. It was found that the emotional quotient of the female students was significantly higher than their male counterparts.

Emotional Quotient (EQ) is defined as the degree of awareness and skills to manage and balance emotions, in order to achieve success and long-term happiness. `Emotional Quotient' (EQ) is generally used interchangeably with `Emotional Intelligence', which in simple terms, is knowing what feels good, what feels bad and how to break away from feeling bad to feeling good. Emotional intelligence is the capacity to create positive outcomes in relationships with others as well as with oneself. According to Mayer and Salovey (1997), emotional intelligence is the ability to monitor one's own as well as other's feelings and emotions, to discriminate among them, and to use this information to guide one's thinking and action.
