Eating out is fast catching up here and to break the monotony of an eating joint, people are going in for various concepts... themes are important, they also create the whole impact about a place.

Since the early years of the 21st century, there has been a continuous growth in the number of theme restaurants and bars across the various major cities of India. Restaurants and bars like Orient Express, Village, The Canton, Starstruck, Metro, Superstars, Champions and Sports Bar have been found to assume prominence in various cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Hyderabad. "A thematic environment has become necessary, as people look to much more than food at an eating joint. The one hour at the place should not be spent simply looking at the walls or eating food", opines Manoj Mittal of Khana Unlimited.

Some of the prominent international theme bars and restaurants are the Buddha Bar, Pasha, Hakkasan and Momo. Buddha Bar is a restaurant cum bar in Paris, and the venue is Buddha-themed. The two-storeyed dining area has a large statue of Buddha. The place has a large number of ornate dragons on display. Buddha Bar mainly serves Chinese, Japanese and Thai cuisines. The culinary theme at Buddha Bar includes Japanese sashimi, Vietnamese spring rolls, lacquered duck, and sautéed shrimp with black bean sauce, grilled chicken skewers with orange sauce, sweet-and-sour spareribs, and crackling squab à l'orange. The ambience along with the food and drinks have been so well accepted by customers that Buddha Bar has opened outlets in Beirut, Dubai, Amman, New York City and Lisbon.Another major theme restaurant of the West is Pasha, located in London. The restaurant offers visitors a Moroccan ambience along with serving authentic Moroccan cuisine. The Moroccan ambience has been created through rich handmade fabrics, intricately curved tables, lamps, rose petals and the sweet smell of incense. Pasha offers different types of wraps, grills, fotour in its menu, along with authentic Moroccan tea as well as a range of desserts and ice cream and sorbets. It also offers an interesting choice of wines.

Momo is a bar cum restaurant in London whose theme, "is inspired by the Arabian culture of shisha smoking, tea drinking and exotic flavors". The menu as well as the cocktails are Morocco-based; with dishes like Pigeon Pastilla, Moroccan style Fish n Chips, Cous Cous, and cocktails like Pommery Apenage, champagne-based Marrakech O Marrakech. Hakkasan is another theme restaurant in London, which carries the Chinese essence. It's interiors comprise modern aesthetic and traditional Chinese motifs. Apart from that, the lighting in the restaurant adds more dynamism to the place. The menu mainly includes sea food like steamed crab in Shao Hsing wine, soft-shell crab with hot and sour sauce, stir-fried lobster tail in XO sauce, roast duck with mango and lemon sauce, stir-fried jellyfish, squid and Chinese chives, pan-fried rib-eye beef with sweet soya and almond, roast pork with red rice, ginger and Shao Hsing, stir-fried asparagus with lotus roots and lily bulb with black pepper.
