This article is intended only for classroom discussion to drive home and understand with clarity certain aspects of the organized retail sector. It does not purport to illustrate effective or ineffective approach to choosing one's career in this sector.

Mukund has been an above average student. After completing his graduation in Commerce, he is pursuing MBA from one of the prestigious management schools in Chennai. He is in the third semester and does not seem to be clear in his choice of the right career option after his MBA. His father is a professional CA and CFA with work experience in major industries for the last 35 years in India and abroad.

Sunday, for him, is a day reserved for relaxation with the family exclusively. Mukund after his routine workout at the nearby gym comes home and is enjoying his cuppa. As the placement season has just begun, he thinks that it is the right time to evaluate his career options. He has been reading from various newspapers about the opening up of the organized retail sector and want to know more about it. He starts discussing with his dad.
