A job interview is the most important element in a recruitment process to find out the suitability of a candidate. This article gives a broader outlook on job interviews, different interview methods, common mistakes made by candidates during interviews, etc. The author also answers those questions that commonly arise in the minds of job seekers such as `how to deal with interview questions', `how to avoid mistakes and win successfully', etc.

A job interview—a term well-known since the 16th century—is where a prospective applicant is assessed by the management for a probable job in their company. It generally means direct meeting between the applicant and two or three people representing the company. The group of interviewers usually includes the concerned immediate superior of the workforce. The discussion can last from 15 minutes to one or two hours. The interview questions are sturdily optimistic because it not only facilitates the candidate to acquire more information about the job and company, but they also depict the interviewee's desire and commitment towards the job.

The basic intention behind a job interview is to evaluate the applicant's appropriateness with the job. The significance of effective preparation for the interviews has been rising day by day. According to the Career Services Center at the University of Delaware, the most common reason the management provides for not selecting a person is the incapability of the applicant to explicate the contents of his or her CV effectively. While attending the interview, it is important to explain each and every item in the CV effectively, and provide examples wherever possible to exemplify the applicant's most appropriate skills and knowledge suitable for the job before the employer. Linda Commodore, Director of Career Services at Westbury, New York campus of the Chubb Institute, a computer training company known for its high graduate placement rate, says, "For candidates entering a new job market, it's vitally important to understand the employer's needs."
