Advertising is a highly competitive industry and advertising agencies act as intermediaries between the manufacturers and the customers to create effective ad campaigns. To recognize the work done by various advertising agencies, advertising awards are given. These awards are indicators of the effectiveness of an ad campaign and serve as important acknowledgment of the high creative standards and achievements in the industry. This article discusses some prominent advertising awards across the globe.

 
 

Advertising awards serve as a measure of the quality of the ad campaigns created by the ad agencies. The awards an agency gets is an indicator of its success in terms of creative and quality work offered to its clients. These awards are also indicators of the effectiveness of an ad campaign made by an agency. There is no single authority for the awards, there are different awards functions which cater to different regions of the world, each having its own set of yardsticks to judge the advertisements in various categories. While many awards are given away each year, only a few are worthy of mention. These are discussed below.

The London International Awards (LIA), which was conceived in London in 1986, has established itself as a global leader, honoring advertising, design and digital media. LIA is the first comprehensive award of its kind accepting all media and executions from all over the world, to be judged by a truly diverse international jury comprising of the most talented, recognized and awarded individuals. Each year, the awards are given to imaginative and emotionally inspirational ideas, with a relevant compelling execution. All companies and/or individuals involved in the creative process of advertising are eligible to enter. The awards are given in various categories, like: design, Non-Traditional Media, Print, Digital Media, Package Design, Radio, Integrated Media, Poster and Billboard and Television/Cinema/ Digital/Web/Mobile categories. For Asia, the entry fee for Television/Cinema/Digital/Web/Mobile categories is £265.

The Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival (IAF) is a global festival for those working in advertising and related fields. The seven-day festival, incorporating the awarding of the Lions awards, is held yearly at the Palais de Festivals in Cannes, France. At present, the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival is the largest gathering of worldwide advertising professionals and advertisers. The Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival is the world's biggest celebration of creativity in communications. Winning companies receive a Lion trophy. The trophies are given in various categories like: honoring the most creative TV/cinema, print, outdoor, interactive, radio, design, PR, sales promotion or integrated advertising campaigns, as well as the best media and direct marketing solutions. It is one of the most prestigious international advertising awards. In 2009, more than 22,500 entries from all over the world were showcased and judged at the festival. Over 6,000 delegates from 90 countries attended seven days of workshops, exhibitions, screenings, master classes and high-profile seminars last year.
