In the most demanding time of the industry since Infosys was created, the company continues to flourish. It is well placed to take on the next set of challenges and move closer to its vision of becoming a globally respected corporation.
India's second-largest software exporter, Infosys Technologies based in India's `Silicon City' of Bangalore, offered a range of customized software development and consulting services. Infosys had set up several dedicated offshore software development centers to serve many global companies. Infosys had grown from a small company run from rented premises in Bangalore to one of India's biggest software exporters in the last two decades. The company had earned a reputation for its principled leadership, professionalism, strong value systems and investor friendliness. The share of the company had become one of the most sought after scrips on Indian stock exchanges. In 2003, Infosys recorded sales of $753.8 mn and a net income of $194.9 mn.
For any visitor to its headquarters in Bangalore, at first glance, Infosys appeared to be an American company lost in India. Its campus featured airy glass buildings, a gymnasium, a sauna, a pool hall, a mini golf course, several tennis courts, and even its own power generators. But the company, whose founders came from middle class families, remained very much rooted in Indian values. |
