Corporate Social Responsibility popularly known as CSR, is integrated in most organization's strategic imperatives. With the growing importance of CSR in companies, Human Resource (HR) professionals have to play a key role in initiating, developing and sustaining CSR activities in the organization. HR professionals have to instill, nourish and stress the importance of CSR activities to the employees and management of the organization to make it a reality. This article delineates the increased importance of CSR in an organization and the HR leader's role in formulating strategies towards this end by integrating and engaging the interest and needs of all the parties concerned.

Corporates face many challenges today such as uncertainty, economic constraints, operational challenges and talent management. Each of these challenges has a potential impact on the achievement of the organizational objectives. In the current intensely competitive and globalized business environment, it has become extremely difficult for a company to maintain competitive advantage in the market. As the world business environment changes, the factors contributing to success and competitive edge also become subjective to these changes.

Building a strategic relationship with customers, suppliers, employees, stakeholders and particularly the community at large, has become central to the sustainability of an organization. This can also form the foundation for a new, progressive and people-centric corporate strategy, which looks beyond the balance sheet and concentrates on its sustainable development.
