Entertainment is an integral part of Indian life. Indians grow on `lullabies', get enthused by metered `epics', and derive inspiration from age-old epochal characters as well as modern movie idols. Over 800 movies, innumerable number of soaps and scores of other entertaining events truly reflect our longing for entertainment. In the past we witnessed the Green Revolution; now, are witnessing the telecommunication revolution; and soon are going to see entertainment revolution. This article traces the entertainment economy of India and how it is evolving to bring in a revolution.

The National Intelligence Council of US predicts that Bollywood will supersede Hollywood by 2020. `India is to be the third largest growing economy in the world, after China and the US, by 2050,' says BRIC report of Goldman Sachs. Digital Entertainment is not just about enthusiasts anymore-it's a major part of everyone's life said Bill Gates, Chairman and Software Architect Microsoft.Indeed it is no exaggeration to say that along with the Green Revolution and the white revolution the telecommunication revolution is truly a pan-Indian phenomenon and that it has transformed our country is well recognized. We are entering an unprecedented era of information and entertainment revolution"-PM Manmohan Singh speech at the launch of DD Direct Plus, India's first free DTH Broadcast Service. Paul Otellini talks about making computing an `anywhere and anytime' phenomenon. He believes that computing is getting pervasive and cheaper and he describes Intel vision in four words as "driving convergence through integration".Global Consumer Electronics giant Sony Corporation fortunes turned because of unprecedented success of Spiderman 2, which generated more than $1.6 bn in revenues from sale of tickets worldwide. We are indeed headed towards a new world, and while the road ahead is the one that has been less traveled, it certainly will be the one which would change the way we had experienced the world. After years of hype and hoopla, countless articles and many kilobytes of discussions and certainly let us not forget the boom, doom and the bust the favorite prediction's of the technological world is coming true: the digital entertainment has arrived or one would say a new way of living is just around the corner; something that will fundamentally unlearn the past experiences and create a new lifestyle that would be radically different from the present.

History is filled with revolutions that humanity has experienced over the past, and each revolution has changed the way people had lived. Look at the industrial revolution around 1850s. It started the process of industrialization across the world. It shifted the dependence from agricultural-based economy to an industrial economy. Large number of industries were set up around the world. Mass production and mass employment started to happen and lifestyles of people changed significantly. Coming to India, we had what we call as the Green Revolution around the 1960s; something that made the country self-dependent in food grains. Green revolution changed the level of income of farmers and, thus, their disposable incomes increased. This further changed their lifestyles. Then in the 1990s, we had the IT revolution that revolutionized the world in an unprecedented manner. The world, with the advent of Internet and communication technologies, became a global village. It became easier to get information about almost anything over the Internet. Thus, was born the knowledge economy, and knowledge management emerged as a discipline.
