Internet technologies have revolutionized the entire process of recruiting, providing advantages like speed and reduction of recruitment cycle. Growth of e-recruitment, especially in India, however, does not imply death for traditional placement agencies. Online and onsite agencies can establish a synergistic relation by designing a mix of `click' and `brick'.

The human resource function must reshape itself, populate itself differently and blur its mental and organizational boundaries.

It is no longer an issue worth debating that people are the most valuable of all organizational resources, both tangible and intangible. Competent and motivated people can make things happen and enable an organization to achieve its goals (Pattanayak, 2001). Human resource (HR) of any organization can facilitate the development of competencies that are firm-specific. Competitive strategy based on HR is difficult to imitate, primarily because of the uniqueness of HR and also due to the inability of competitors to formulate an appropriate and effective response in the short-term. Such paradigm shift of emphasis on HR demands a more comprehensive and more strategic perspective on the part of organizations to recruit, utilize and conserve valuable HR. In a hyper-competitive environment, the key to enhancement of productivity now rests primarily on recruitment of employees, along with rewarding them equitably and designing ways and means of retaining them in the organization. The turn of the new millennium has heralded a smarter, more efficient and more productive culture in organizations. The drive to hire and retain the best talent has forced organizations across industries to redesign their business processes and increase efficiency (Baijal et. al., 2001). In a bid to add value to the entire process of recruiting the best talents, organizations are overhauling their recruiting strategies, especially those pertaining to various methods of recruitment.

The automation of HR functions like the payroll system had started a long time ago, mainly with the objective of cutting costs. Today, with HR turning into a strategic function, several other facets are gradually embracing technology as well. Of these, noteworthy is recruitment, which has transgressed its traditional sources like advertisements in newspapers, placement agencies, campus interviews, etc., to metamorphose itself into online recruitment, with the intervention of Internet technologies.
