The recent launch of the Project "MCA-21" by the Ministry of Company Affairs was aimed at meeting the requirements of stakeholders in the 21st century, where information relating to a company or industry is made available at the click of a mouse. This article discusses the procedure involved and various benefits to the stakeholders. It also analyses why this scheme is important in the present and future scenario and the work has to be prioritized by the office of the Registrar of Companies.

The information technology may be defined as "Any equipment or interconnected system or subsystem of equipment that is used in the automatic acquisition, storage, manipulation, management, movement, control, display, switching, interchange, transmission, or reception of data or information. The term information technology includes computers, ancillary equipment, software, firmware and similar procedures, services (including support services), and related resources. Information technology provides the "engine" used to drive useful information systems. This includes computers, software, Internet/ Intranet and telecommunications technology.

Information technology or Information and communications technology is a broad subject concerned with technology and other aspects of managing and processing information, in particular IT deals with the use of electronic computers and computer software to convert, store, protect, process, transmit, and retrieve information.

In India alone, there are more than seven lakhs registered companies and the responsibility of receiving, registering, classifying and maintaining data about these companies are entrusted by the government upon Registrar of Companies (ROC). The offices of ROC are located only in 20 major cities, whereas the companies are spread to the remote corners of the country.
