The
information technology may be defined as "Any equipment
or interconnected system or subsystem of equipment that
is used in the automatic acquisition, storage, manipulation,
management, movement, control, display, switching, interchange,
transmission, or reception of data or information. The
term information technology includes computers, ancillary
equipment, software, firmware and similar procedures,
services (including support services), and related resources.
Information technology provides the "engine"
used to drive useful information systems. This includes
computers, software, Internet/ Intranet and telecommunications
technology.
Information
technology or Information and communications technology
is a broad subject concerned with technology and other
aspects of managing and processing information, in particular
IT deals with the use of electronic computers and computer
software to convert, store, protect, process, transmit,
and retrieve information.
In
India alone, there are more than seven lakhs registered
companies and the responsibility of receiving, registering,
classifying and maintaining data about these companies
are entrusted by the government upon Registrar of Companies
(ROC). The offices of ROC are located only in 20 major
cities, whereas the companies are spread to the remote
corners of the country.
