The United India Insurance Company Limited was incorporated on February 18, 1938. It is one of the four subsidiaries of General Insurance Corporation of India, with its headquarters at Chennai. The company is the second largest non-life insurer (by the size of premium and market share of the general insurance business in India) which was nationalized in 1972.

After nationalization, United India has grown by leaps and bounds and has 18,300 employees spread across 1,340 offices providing insurance cover to more than one crore policyholders. The company has a tie-up with 44 banks to deliver insurance products through the bancassurance mode.

It has a variety of insurance products to provide insurance cover, from bullock carts to satellites. It has to its credit an array of products and policies designed for every need of the customer.

The company has launched two new medical insurance policies, Top Up and Super Top Up. These policies help people add up to Rs. 15 lakh to their medical cover. The policies provide a wholesome cover in Mediclaim by virtue of enhancing the limit at a very small additional premium. These policies hike the limits of their existing cover or reimbursement limits.
