The solution for the global food crisis lies with the New Green Revolution, which is not just to increase the yield and area cultivated but also to optimize resources utilization, reduce post-harvest losses, increase food processing efficiency, strengthen food distribution and retailing as well as optimize consumption. Such integrated approach will become a significant determinant of the wellbeing of a nation's food system.

It is common to find that there is a relative decline in agricultural land size in the time of economic development. Traditionally, this is attributed to the fact that there is slower rise in the demand for agri-food products than other goods or services. Its interconnection—prices of agri-food products—are subsequently low and at best cheap. This is further reflected in the value of the agricultural land. A developed land (be it for housing or manufacturing or other building) is valued at least 10 times more than agricultural land. How is it possible that an ageing farmer who is frequently challenged by external factors (climate change, flood, drought, etc.) in farming is not tempted by the cash bait?

Agricultural production is a function of acreage and yield. Most agricultural policies tend to be production-centric, mainly referring to yield improvement. It is perhaps too painful to touch on land issues. This is because most agricultural land is privately owned by individuals and organizations, thus, we have bits and pieces here and there. The enforcement to gazette their land as agricultural reserve is costly.
