This article deals with the role of emotion in different aspects of professionalism and specifies the importance of emotional intelligence in different roles such as bosses and subordinates in the office. It also relates emotional intelligence to key professional issues such as performance and quality.

According to Wikipedia, "Emotion is a mental and physiological state associated with a wide variety of feelings, thoughts and behavior. It is a prime determinant of the sense of subjective well-being and appears to play a central role in many human activities." This is understood to be a psychological state and it generates different kinds of feelings in us.

"Intelligence is an umbrella term used to describe a property of the mind that encompasses many related abilities, such as the capacity to reason, plan, solve problems, think abstractly, comprehend ideas, use a language, and learn. There are several ways to define intelligence. In some cases, intelligence may include traits such as creativity, personality, character, knowledge or wisdom." Intelligence is more functional and it can be witnessed as if it is tangible and can reflect in our actions and words and in all the other kind of behavioral aspects. Though emotions need not be functional at all, it is a human weakness to let them infiltrate our work atmosphere. This happens because an employee cannot always afford to be conscious and careful. He or she might get carried away even before the realization dawns that something unwanted might happen. This can be suppressed and also hidden while there are ways to vent our emotions without letting them creep into our professional life and stand in the path of our success.

Emotions and intelligence are quite contradictory topics to each other in their outward appearance, but inseparably interlinked to each other. It is difficult to ensure what is important in leading our life. The present generation has crossed several theoretical and practical hurdles which were put up by the huge demand of modern day professional life. Emotion can be explained as an inborn and spontaneous quality which every individual possesses: it is the driving force which deals with the heart. In most of the cases, it influences the behavior and thought patterns. These thought patterns are associated with the mind and sometimes the appearance of an individual. Emotional life in organizations reflects in different ways of work output. It is true that people carry their emotions even to workplaces, but often their emotions are overlooked by the organization and its structure.
