Frank, an upcoming animator,
always wondered how Pixar
Animation Studio (Pixar) could be so successful, despite
tough competition. His interest in Pixar had increased after seeing the
movie Wall.E at the El Capitan Theatre, Los Angeles, on June 26, 2008. The
movie was a breathtaking effort, which took the best of both art and technology to
a new high. Pixar has become an epitome of animation success
and technological breakthrough. What further intrigued him was its
continued success.
Pixar Animation Studios is an Academy Award winning
computer animation studio with technical, creative and production capabilities
to create a new generation of animated feature films, merchandize and
other related products.Pixar's objective
is to combine proprietary technology and world-class creative talent to
develop computer-animated feature films with memorable characters
and heartwarming stories that appeal to audiences of all
ages. In partnership with Walt Disney Pictures
(Disney), Pixar created and produced some of the best movies – Toy Story (1995),
A Bug's Life (1998), Toy Story 2 (1999), Monsters, Inc. (2001),
Finding Nemo (2003), The Incredibles (2004), Cars (2006),
Ratatouille (2007), and `Wall.E'
(2008). For nearly 15 years, Pixar's creative
and technical teams had produced animation films, short films and
television commercials using three-dimensional computer animation,
which helped in developing their creative expertise and proprietary
technology. Pixar has the sole credit of making breakthroughs in the application
of Computer Graphics (CG) for film-making. It also has a tradition of
sharing its advances within the broader CG community, through technical
papers, technology partnerships, and through RenderMan
product. RenderMan remains the standard
in CG film visual effects and feature animation and has been honored with
an Academy Award for technical
achievement. Relied upon by artists
and technical directors worldwide, RenderMan is central to today's
CG film-making process. Pixar's creative department is led by
John Lasseter, an Academy Award winning director and an animator. The
Pixar creative team includes a department of highly-skilled animators, a
story department and an art department. Unlike the Hollywood model,
where the artists and technical crew come together for a project and
disband later, Pixar is a well-knit company, where projects are done
continuously with the same band of people with due loyalty. They continuously
contribute to the projects. |
