For more than 300 years, self-knowledge has been considered as the very core of human behavior. The ancient dictum "Know Thyself" has been variously attributed to Plato, Pythagoras, Thales and Socrates. As early as 42 BC, Publilius Syrus proposed: "It matters not what you are thought to be, but what you are." In recent times, the concept of self-awareness has assumed great importance in all walks of life. The Human Resources department uses this concept to manage effectively and motivate the employees to become better individuals thereby improving their efficiency at work. This article aims to analyze the various dimensions of self-awareness that form the basis of change in behavior and attitude for managing life-skills.
Self-awareness
means knowing one's internal states, preferences, resources,
intuitions, etc. It indicates the ability to recognize, understand
and accept one's strengths and shortcomings. The first step
in bringing about a change in oneself is through self awareness.
The understanding of oneself gives a clear perception to the
individual on the negative aspects that he would like to change
and the positive aspects that he would like to enhance. Without
knowing who you are, self-acceptance and change become impossible.
To know oneself thoroughly, it is important to identify the
key areas of self-awareness. |
