Abstract
This book focuses on the concept of temping and its growing importance and significance as the fastest-growing
HR trend in India through three comprehensive sections. The first section titled "Temping: An Introduction" throws
light on the significance and the role of temping in the current business scenario. The second section "Temping:
Indian Experiences" provides insights into Indian experiences of temping and the status and importance of
temping in Indian companies. The last section "Temping: Country Experiences" highlights the temping industry
status and its recent trends in various countries.
Description
The rapidly changing business scenario of Liberalization,
Privatization and Globalization (LPG) has made the concept
of temping grow faster by gaining approval as a proficient
way of employing talented workforce. Temporary staff agencies
proffer a surplus of explicit staffing solutions to the
clients to meet their changing business demands. Temping
is considered to be beneficial for the companies that hire
temps as it provides a flexible staffing selection mechanism,
helps the client to meet up-ticks in demand to maintain
the business cycle and keeps the labor costs under control.
Thus, it provides competitive advantage to the firm in the
marketplace. Temping firms provide a wide array of HR services
from recruitment to end-to-end activity management, which
has encouraged many industries to use temps as never before,
thus making temping a booming business that contributes
in a big way to the global economy and employment for all.
The end result is that ``there is sufficient space for everyone
in the current employment market and the temporary workforce
is no exception."
The employees are empowered through delegation. Empowerment implies giving authority as well as resources to the subordinates to enable them to take independent decisions without having to refer to their boss.
The term empowerment is complex and multidimensional. Although the term generally has a positive connotation one must be cautious about its negative implications also.
