This article reconstructs a real-life situation observed by one of the authors. The names of the characters have been changed to protect their identity.

Mukund has been an above average student all along. After completing his graduation in Commerce, he is pursuing MBA from one of the prestigious management schools in Chennai. He is in the third semester and does not seem to have full clarity about choosing the right career option after his MBA. His father is a professional CA and CFA, having work experience in major industries for more than 35 years in India and abroad.

Sunday is a day reserved exclusively for relaxation and spending time with the family. Mukund, after the usual work out at the gym nearby, comes home and is enjoying his coffee. As the placement season has just begun, he feels it is the right time to evaluate the career options. After discussing the issue with his father on the previous Sunday, he gained a lot of insight into the organized retail sector (Published in the March 2009, MBA Review.)

With global meltdown in mind and the placement opportunities considerably reduced, Mukund felt the need to learn more about other sectors before he can focus his attention on the right sector. He knew that he cannot confine himself to any one sector and should be ready to fit into any sector.

(He learns from the placement coordinator about the proposed visit of many private insurance companies for the campus recruitment in the coming week. So this Sunday he wanted to know about insurance sector).
