Your Job is Just a Tweet Away,
                    screams a message on Twitter.
The headline is catchy and fashionably cool. Before you
begin to wonder if this is a new fad or a next big whoop-de-doo,
consider this. Twitter, another social media site, has taken the business
world by storm. Today, it has become a ubiquitous phenomenon.
Every news channel, blogs, talk shows and newspapers are covering
it extensively. Celebrities like Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh
Bachchan are in news for their tweets. Talk show diva, Oprah Winfrey
and leading Hollywood actor, Stephen Fry, are some of the
famous personalities who have joined the `twitter' bandwagon. Once
slammed as a clunkingly faddish social media experiment, today Twitter makes
a grand comeback. Carping critics quailed at the sheer thought
of Twitter by dubbing it as a site devoid of any utility value. Today,
twitter has morphed into a very flexible thingammy in the remit of
social media. Companies are using Twitter for practically everything under
the sun, like for e-commerce, selling products or services,
spreading legislative awareness, building employer brand and
forging relationships with customers as well as to forge connections with
niche communities. Twitter boasts of heavy traffic and high user levels.
If Twitter is able to generate zillions of messages that can be put
to wondrous use, why can't it be used for hiring the soundest
and scantiest asset of the organization its
employees. This has made headhunters, recruiters and
job seekers to sit down and take notice of Twitter's compelling utility.
In the current competitive era, talent is at premium. Companies
are resorting to all methods to get the talent they are looking
for. Companies may take recourse to its proven, time-tested strategy
of widely publicizing its talent requirements in
well-established and known media. Call it a
paradox or esoteric stuff, we have far too many people seeking
jobs out there than the number of job itself. As a result, companies lap up
top-notch talent at the first available instance. Admittedly,
though there are few job openings in the market today, the key lies in
how extensively companies can advertise their openings so that
it can ensnare crème de la crème
into its stable. With its eye-popping and ever-increasing user
levels, Twitter has become a crucial captive source for recruiters to
tap into talent. With Twitter growing at a frenetic pace, employers
are twittering their way to attract talent as it has become a
fantastic tool to reach out, network, and connect with zillions of people
out there who want to hear it from the horse's mouth. Thus, Twitter is
the new glamorous baby. Moveover, Orkut, YouTube and
MyFace, Twitter is here to stay.
