While reacting to the change in external environment is a must, to do good business by making right decisions improves organization profitability and equips it better to face increased competition on board. This article explains the emerging concept of real time enterprises. It examines how a business should integrate enterprise data, synchronize and make information available across the enterprise in real time.

Assume you are a customer of a company's product and have contacted its Customer Service Center (CSC) to lodge a complaint. The customer care executive asks your id and then checks all the transactions you made, the complaints made earlier and immediately either reports the problems you were about to complain or have already complained and indicates response of the company. You are more than satisfied and would not hesitate to continue buying products of the company and also contacting the CSC without a hitch. The company we are referring is said to have transformed into RTE.

The inability to react to a change in environment is known as latency. An enterprise or business organization, which achieves zero latency, is called Zero Latency Enterprise (ZLE) or Real Time Enterprise (RTE). The concept is synonymous with the systems like the launching of a rocket, nuclear reactors where any degree of latency leads to system failure and results in adverse conditions.
