Discipline is a must at all levels and in all spheres in order to achieve success. It is difficult to achieve anything without a set of rules to be followed. Any organization's success depends upon the level of discipline observed therein. It has also been researched that the more disciplined the seniors are, more is the probability of others behaving in a disciplined manner. This article discusses some aspects of organizational discipline.

What will happen if the sun starts rising from the west or the earth stops rotating? The answers are simple and imaginable. If you observe the surroundings, you will find that nature has specific rules which demands obedience without the need of supervision. Human beings, though the most intellectual inhabitants of earth, usually do not like to observe rules and regulations. But a moderate level of discipline and control is inevitably necessary in whatever activity we are engaged in. Nothing can substitute discipline. No system can work in the absence of certain rules to be followed. Discipline should be nurtured in the organization and must become a way of organizational life.

In common parlance, discipline is "to do what you should do." This phrase describes that if we do what we ought to do, then there is discipline automatically. We do not need to be told, guided or supervised. We as human beings tend to become more self-centered and do not bother about the trouble we may create for others by not following real simple laws of life and behavior. If we become considerate to some extent, indiscipline can be avoided.
