An article by Holstein Foundation titled "Effective Group Leadership" says, "Leaders do not dominate a group, but lead by their actions. Leadership needs to change with the situation; thus, different people can lead at different times. The best leaders take on many different roles to support the needs of the group. True leaders focus on helping their group achieve its goals rather than on their own personal recognition".

If a man is called a streetsweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music, or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, here lived a great streetsweeper who did his job well.

The growing number of knowledge workers and knowledge-driven work environment involving huge amount of "tacit interactions" and free flow of tacit knowledge this knowledge intensive work environment demands a new kind of Human Resources (HR) practice. This is so, when it comes to the majority of Indian knowledge workforce who are working in Multinational Companies (MNCs). They are said to be employed in Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPOs) whose work is distinct from those performing routine "transaction service" as it is in voice-based non-technical call centers. These knowledge workers who are employed in KPOs not only use a good number of analytical tools but also embed a lot of knowledge and experience from it. Some of the voice-based transaction services which employ qualified MBAs involve their employees to deliver solutions to complicated business problems faced by decision-makers around the world. It is the human interface which makes the final output very much valuable and that's why they are highly paid. Most of the outcomes these knowledge workers work on are purely intuitive and judgment-based. Such, complex and competence-based proprietary knowledge makes each person or professional a leader in his area.
