Establishing SHG - Bank Linkage : A Case of Anarde Foundation

Anarde Foundation, one of the leading SHPIs in India, started group linkage in North Gujarat in 1997 with the support of Nabard; but it could not sustain the project for long. This case is the reflection of the Project of SHG - Bank Linkage implemented by the Foundation.

 
 
 

The ACIL-Navsarjan Rural Development Foundation known as Anarde Foundation was established in 1979 and registered under the Bombay Public Trust Act 1950. It was established for the purpose of integrated rural development with financial support from Aegis Chemical Industries Ltd. Anarde Foundation has defined a set of programs and their priorities weightage in terms of percentage. The weightage is: i) economic development programs (60%), health programs (10%), educational programs (10%), environmental programs (10%) and social development programs (10%). The objectives of Anarde Foundation are to: i) inculcate self-help among rural people, ii) provide management inputs to use natural resources, iii) coordinate program through grassroots-level management team, iv) create involvement of beneficiaries to ensure effective participation, and v) lead the developmental program especially credit delivery program.

The North Gujarat Zone branch of Anarde Foundation implemented the SHG-Bank Linkage Program. North Gujarat Zone operates and coordinates activities in seven districts of Gujarat namely Sabarkantha, Banaskantha, Panchmahal, Kheda, Mehsana, Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, which are further desegregated into 61 talukas encompassing 3,000 villages. The Zonal headquarters is located in Himatnagar.
