The nascent move from BPO to KPO enhances the utilization of human potential and talents in India. KPOs demand knowledge workers having a strong domain and business expertise as well as the infrastructure to support it. This article is an attempt to reflect on the opportunities and threats to KPO operations in India, especially when other nations are also emerging as outsourcing destinations.

"There is a vast pool of people who work for us, including MBAs, Chartered Accountants, Economists and Engineers. In SmartCube, employees get to work on high-end research for leading clients. It is comparable to the work done at leading international consulting companies.""An ageing workforce in the western world and the consequent shortage of professional skills in the future will be key drivers for the inclusion of Indian talent."

Today, when we think of IT enabled services, the first service that comes to our mind is the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO). It refers to the outsourcing of business functions such as airlines, hotel reservations, customer services, data entry and processing tasks. It involves the low-end processes of any organization. India has always been the hub of BPOs and has absorbed nearly 30,00,000 employees out of which most of them are just graduates. Due to the competitive advantages, many overseas companies have established their outsourcing operations in India. Time efficiency, economic benefits, the availability of skilled and cheap labor, handling of non-core functions, risk management, providing value-added services and the convergent technology are few reasons, which attracts outsourcing operations in India. The rate of unemployment in India is less talked about because of the quick absorption of the youth in various domestic and international BPOs.
