In an information-based world, companies that eliminate "information float"the costly lag between the time data is created and when it gets used, have an advantage. Accelerating the collection and use of decision-making related data is increasingly a critical service and profitability requirement for companies that compete in diverse information-intensive industries, such as financial services, telecommunications, retail and healthcare.

A company operating in real-time is a Zero Latency Enterprise (ZLE). The Gartner group coined the term `Zero Latency Enterprise' stating "in a real-time, in a zero latency enterprise, information is delivered to the right place at the right time for maximum business value." ZLE has the power to gather and process information continuously, in real-time, without delay. It results in organizational efficiency and responsiveness.

In today's competitive business world, no doubt the speed succeeds. Companies that react more quickly to a rapidly changing business environment can capitalize on new opportunities; respond more quickly to their customers, close deals faster and, eventually, earn more.

As the Internet raises customer expectations and drives competition, companies are discovering that pretty fast is not fast enough. Today's successful businesses must operate in real-time. Companies are being pressurized to generate ideas and make decisions faster, and manage logistics and order fulfillment more efficiently. To do so, they have to move beyond the standard means of communication. Gone are the days when companies could rely on batch processing, electronic data interchange, and e-mail or even telephone.
