There are some avenues associated with going global that must be addressed before any organization chooses a global strategy. Among the leading questions associated with global leadership are: Why it makes sense to go global; and when does it make sense to go global? There has been a superfluity of research and conversation regarding global leadership within organizations. Global initiatives have been the top priority of consideration for organizations for several years now. There are numerous considerations that may prove to be beneficial to the global efforts by the effective executives of cutting-edge organizations however. Some of the paramount considerations include: defining the construct of globalization for the organization; lifelong learning issues for the people of the organization; and cultural issues within the organization. Some organizations view globalization as thinking globally (whatever that may consist of), but there are issues of paramount importance that any organization must consider before embarking on globalization.

Before a conversation ensues regarding globalization, one must operationally define the construct. In essence, what is globalization? This is of paramount consideration for the effective executive within any organizationthe people of the organization must attempt to operationally define the construct of globalization based upon their cognized goals for the organization. It is very important for the organization to consider the products and services they provide; communications issues; financial concerns for both the organization and the potential patrons; as well as cultural issues, and the facilitation of learning for the people associated with the organization. It is recommended that effective executives first think about some imperative reasons for going global, then operationally define the construct based upon a gap study of where they are and how global postures can enhance their product or service.
