Consulting in human resources management is one of the oldest areas in management consulting, but the field has seen several changes in the past couple of decades. Consultants can make the exercise more meaningful, and provide inputs on managing performance on an ongoing basis with regular interaction and feedback between superiors and subordinates.

 
 
 

With the knowledge re sources at their disposal, management consultants are often equipped to deal with any business situation that they are called in by clients. Typically, these situations arise in any or a combination of the functional areas of a business - production or operations, marketing, finance, human resources management, etc. The form and scope of the consultant's engagement with clients is constantly expanding and evolving, with newer areas for consulting interventions emerging as businesses get more complex and challenging with globalization, technological advances and increased emphasis on good corporate governance and practices. This article takes a look at some of the areas where consulting interventions are sought by clients.

Strategy consulting is a major area of work for management consultants. Indeed, all areas in management consulting have a strategy component embedded in them. But, in the specific context of what is usually referred to as "strategy consulting", one is talking about consultants drawing up broad business scenarios for client companies, and focusing on how clients can leverage their strengths to take advantage of opportunities, even as they encounter challenges.
