Human Resource (HR) is a resource with a difference. With the changing world, there has been a gradual change in the way human resource practices are carried out in Indian organizations. Due to changed business scenario, people are insecure and the changes brought are incapable of dealing with human requirements. There exists an imbalance in dealing with people, i.e., the treatment given by organization to external customer is better than internal customer. We should be ready to accept change, provided change is worth it. The article discusses the kind of changes we are designing and the results we are getting.

Human resource is an integral part of business management and cannot be ignored at any cost. In the process of researching human side of enterprises in India, there have been many questions which have raised an eyebrow. Some say that the world is poised at an interesting juncture, that it is going to be hard for people. No matter, business has undergone a sea change and so has HR practices. The concern is that people have also changed with the time. The agony is that people's need remained same in the levels of hierarchy as explained by Maslow.

The Indian business economy has followed a mixed approach leaning towards left, i.e., socialistic under strict government control over private sector, foreign trade and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). In order to meet competitive global requirement, India has opened doors for foreign investors and there has been many changes which nurtured the business environment. The protected economy of the country is now "customer" driven. In order to yield best, every company started following one or the other standards to reach the mission, vision and objectives of their business. The post globalization has brought the demise of communism and fall of trade barriers. The global communications have enhanced by fiber optics, satellites and computer technologies. There was an emergence of global standards and regulatory institutions.
