The economy ahead of us is fast paced and knowledge intensive. It poses many challenges to those who wish to lead it. The article discusses challenges and issues to be addressed by the leaders of the new millennium.
The
"next economy" has arrived. It is global,
knowledge intensive and fast changing, requiring high
quality leadership and management. Regardless of the
current economic outlook or the next application that
purports to revolutionize the world, the progression of
leadership can be viewed as a simple milestone. All of
us, the normal job worker and even entrepreneurs, begin
as normal individual contributors. But then during the
course, develop a set of skills and abilities and apply
them to business and continue honing them, until we
become experts, distinguishing ourselves with others.
More often than not, this expertise propels us to the
next level, a leader of people. But an individual
contributor doesn't always have the skills or even the
desire to lead. It is only when we share our expertise
with others, disseminate our knowledge and help people
elevate their standards that they recognize us as
leaders.
The
present century is a test of these qualities because of
some specific challenges for leaders looking toward this
decade and beyond, in the 21st century. This
article looks at the dilemmas leaders are facing, as we
enter the 21st century. |
