The system approach is primarily based on the principle of wholeness. An engineering education system consists of several interrelated and interdependent components. All these components need to be viewed aggregately. In this article, the engineering education system is analyzed by using the system approach. This approach includes components such as identification of stakeholders, input, output, processes, resources and management. The relevance of these components has been discussed with that of the philosophy of Total Quality Management (TQM). From the analysis, it can be concluded that system approach is a very important concept in building an institution, which involves everyone in the system towards continuous improvement and total c.

The engineering education system consists of several components, viz., educational programs, human resources, physical resources, instructional resources, finance, etc. These components are interrelated and interdependent. An action in one area results into a chain of reactions in other areas. Presently, many engineering institutes are being managed without considering the various components in totality. Rather, piecemeal approach has become the consistent way to solve most of the educational problems faced by the engineering education system.

The system concept is getting a great deal of attention in industrial as well as academic circles. An engineering education system can be viewed as a complete organism for its effective and efficient management. This article is an
attempt towards applying and analyzing engineering education through system approach and by studying its relevance with concepts of Total Quality Management (TQM).
